First Day of School!

Okay, so I am really late in posting this, but I did take pictures of my kids on the first day of school this year. As opposed to last year where there is no documentation of their first day of school. I wonder if this means I am advancing in my quality as a mom! Here is Mia with her teacher.

And here is Shad with his teacher.

And then as support to the middle child syndrome, I, of course, forgot to take a picture of Eli with his teacher so I tried to make up for it by taking a picture of him in his classroom. Now the trick is to figure out which one is him. I'm saving now for the therapy that he will need some day because of me.

And finally a picture of all of us after school. They look trashed! Unfortunately that only lasted one day. They now come home from school with more than enough energy!

My Son is Now Embarrassed by Me!

I went into Shad’s school classroom today to say a surprise “Hi!” I just knew he would feel so privileged that his Mom had come to visit. The first snag in my happy little fantasy was when I realized he was hiding. How could he be hiding from me?! He couldn’t possibly be embarrassed by me, could he? Then I went over to say Hi and made a special effort to not give him a kiss on the cheek. And when he realized that hiding was not going to work, he greeted me with a “What are you doing here?” No “Hi Mom, good to see you” or even a hug and a smile, but “What are you doing here?” When did I become so uncool? Could it already be happening in 3rd grade? I thought for sure my cool factor was going to last a little longer. I guess I must now relish in the fact that I am still cool to the other three for now.

The Big Jump From 2nd grade to 3rd grade

With Shad’s new entry into 3rd grade has come a challenge I’m not sure I’m equipped to handle. My straight-A son is now bringing home near failing grades. So, in desperation, I sought comfort from my yoga teacher’s cute little 4th grade daughter who let me know with a certainty that only a 4th grader who has just experienced the 3rd grade life could give, that she too made some bad grades in the beginning of 3rd grade during an adjustment period. But she ended up getting a hundred on her reading portion of the big Texas test that all 3rd graders and up have to take, and pass, in order to move to the next grade. So I will have to hold my breath and wait, and count my blessings that I only have to have one 1st experience with a child in 3rd grade. I know that with the following children I will be far less stressed when they enter 3rd grade. Poor Shad! No wonder he is so high strung!
